The US National Security Agency (NSA) is siphoning the telephone records of Verizon’s US customers under a secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) order issued last April. Glenn Greenwald, writing for the Guardian on Wednesday 5 June, breaks the story that while huge should come as no surprise to anyone who has paid a smidgeon of attention.
Roger Vinson’s FISC order
Greenwald obtained the secret court order, signed by FISC Judge Roger Vinson requiring Verizon to provide the NSA ongoing daily metadata about all telephone calls traversing its network, both domestically and abroad without regard to individual suspicion.
